Net1 – Prism Overview
Net 1 utilises the Net 1 Universal Electronic Payment System, or UEPS to provide universal electronic payment system technology as an alternative payment system to the un-banked and under-banked populations of developing economies. There are an estimated four billion people, who generally have very limited access to a bank account, and can then effect affordable electronic transactions with one another, government agencies, employers, merchants and other financial services providers.
A secure UEPS Java based application is now available for hosting on mobile phones, which extends our UEPS reach even further, incorporating all UEPS functions onto a handset. This application can also be utilised in conjunction with our comprehensive GSM SIM range, available from the subsidiary company Prism. As an active SIMalliance member Prism provides a function rich range of 2G and 3G SIM / USIM cards on various silicon platforms, both via direct supplier relationships, as well as via operating system licensing.
